Was Lala Kent Responsible For Vanderpump Rules’ Reboot?

Season 11 of Vanderpump Rules followed the aftermath of Tom Sandoval’s affair with Rachel “Raquel” Leviss, which resulted in his breakup with Ariana Madix. As Tom was asking for forgiveness from his co-stars, one thing he could never do is speak to his ex face to face.

The end of Season 11 saw Lala Kent and Tom breaking the fourth wall as they had had enough of Ariana refusing to do her job, meaning, speak to Tom about his affair. It wasn’t until the Season 11 reunion that Ariana finally spoke to Tom, who pleaded, “I just want you gone.”

However, with the announcement that Season 12 of VPR was getting a complete overhaul, Lala believes it was all because of her season-ending scene which saw her go on a rant about Ariana.

Lala Kent admitted during an Amazon Live in December that when she broke the fourth wall on the Season 11 finale, it was the be-all and end-all for her cast on Vanderpump Rules.

“I do often wonder if I would’ve kept my mouth shut, like if a producer wouldn’t have stepped in and told me that I’m allowed to say the things that I said off-camera about filming, if the show would’ve been able to go on,” Lala expressed. “Or if I was just the final nail in the coffin. I guess we’ll never know.”

The mother of two admitted that she knew the show was coming to an end because the cast was so “broken.”

“So, not only did I know it was coming to an end after that, but I feel like the moment we started filming season 11 it was going to be the last. It just felt like there was nothing–it was broken. It was very broken. So yeah, I feel okay with it. I feel very much at peace,” she shared.

At the very end of Season 11, Episode 15, titled “Plot Twist,” Lala goes on a rant about Ariana refusing to film with Tom.

“This happened to her. The world rallied around her. She now thinks she is Beyonce. It’s bull s**** that she can’t film with someone that she stays under the same roof … I get it, he f****** cheated, but he did not kill somebody. She moved on 8 days later!”

She continued, “I never in my life experienced someone who gets cheated on and suddenly she becomes God!”

Fans will recall that Season 10 focused on Scandoval—Ariana finding out that Tom cheated on her for months with their friend and co-star Rachel. His affair ultimately affected the entire cast as people began siding with Ariana, while others were left in the middle. Season 11 showed Tom asking for his co-star’s forgiveness. Scheana Shay and Lala were just two of his co-stars that wanted to move past his cheating.

The Season 11 reunion was an emotional roller coaster as the cast watched the finale scene back all together alongside host Andy Cohen. During a confessional for the last episode, Lala explained that Ariana refusing to film with Tom “was a slap in the face” and a terrible way to end the season.

“I love filming this show because it is real. I find it to be tremendouly healing. And, for Ariana to walk out this way is just such a slap in the face. This is what we do. We’ve been doing this for most of our adult lives. We’ve all experiences high highs and low lows and their is a responsibility that comes with living your life on camera,” Lala shared.

“You have to be truthful even when you’re uncomfortable.”

While appearing on Scheana’s Shceananigans podcast, Lala expressed that she didn’t regret what she said about Ariana. However, she was sorry that she didn’t warn Ariana.

“I wish that after the finale, after I lost my mind, that I would’ve called Ariana and said, ‘I want to let you know that I said some really, really hurtful things that’ll probably be friendship ending,” Lala said. “It was not my style. I can’t even believe that I didn’t do that because I’m so adamant about when I say things behind your back, I’m gonna say it to your face.”

“I don’t regret saying what I said. I regret not giving her the heads up.”

After the final episode aired, some fans thought Lala was out of line. Including this commenter on Reddit who believed that Ariana was actually being real. She didn’t want to film with her ex who cheated on her for months with their friend. If she did go up to speak to him, that wouldn’t be Ariana portraying her authentic self.

“How in the world did Andy say Brock and Lala were the voice of reason when Katie is by far the most reasonable. Ariana is 100% entitled to whatever boundaries she chooses, TV show be damned. If this is actually a reality show, and this is actually what happened, then OF COURSE SHE DOESN’T WANT TO FILM A SCENE WITH HIM APOLOGIZING TO HER. Why should she??? I’m so confused how so many people can be on the completely wrong side of rational thought and be so confident about it…”

In fact, another commenter pointed out that in earlier seasons, Lala refused to show her romantic life with Randall, her big-shot movie producer boyfriend. Anytime he was around, it was rumored that NDA’s (non-dosclousre agreements) were handed out.

“What has Lala ever truly shared? Can’t talk about that, there’s an NDA, can’t talk about this there’s a custody battle – it’s all smoke and mirrors.”

Lala Is No Longer Friends With Ariana

When Lala shared on her Amazon Live that she believed her rant towards Ariana ended up being the reason for the VPR overhaul, fans had a lot to say. For starters, users on a Reddit thread discussing her comments believed that she just wanted to remain relevant.

  • “She’s always trying to be important, its so inauthentic and annoying 😣”
  • Lala wants to take credit for the show ending. You’re not that important girl!
  • “Her supporting Sandoval could be why the show ended, but not this.”

During an appeareace on WWHL, Lala shared that she had not seen Ariana since the Season 11 reunion. However, she was happy for her co-star’s success on Broadway.

“We don’t speak. She’s killing it and I’m thrilled about it. And I mean it!”

Back in October, when she was a guest on Jeff Lewis Live, when asked if she had any sort of relationship with Ariana, the reality TV star shared, “We don’t have one.” When asked if she thinks the two women would ever make amends, Lala shared, “That will never happen.”

It seems that the show really ended because these friendships were no longer real and the cast was just too divided over Scandoval.
