Scheana Shay Clarifies Why She Uses Her Ex-Husband’s Last Name And Whether It Bothers Her Husband, Brock Davies
When Scheana Shay first appeared on the first season of Vanderpump Rules in 2013, she was in a relationship with Mike Shay. Both her engagement and wedding—where she wore a crop top wedding dress—were shown on the Bravo show. However, after less than three years together, Scheana decided to separate from Mike.
Scheana fully moved on from her first marriage and remarried Brock Davies in August 2022. However, she continued to use Mike’s last name and still does to this day. Scheana didn’t bother to change her name back to her birth name, which is Scheana Jancan, nor go by Scheana Davies. “Scheana Shay” certainly has a ring to it.
Fans can probably expect an explanation in her spicy new memoir, but she went into more detail about why Shay has stuck, and if her husband is bothered by it in a recent podcast episode.
Why Scheana Shay Uses Her Ex-Husband’s Last Name Despite Being Married To Brock Davies
On the January 31st episode of Scheana Shay’s Scehananigans podcast, the reality TV star answered fan questions about her upcoming memoir titled, My Good Side. The memoir will touch upon her failed first marriage to Mike Shay, which was all played out on Vanderpump Rules. However, what fans also wanted to know was why she continued to use her ex-husband, Mike Shay’s last name.
“Ugh, I saw this so much online, and I don’t know why it bothers everyone else more than it bothers my ex-husband or current husband, but is there a reason behind choosing to use your ex’s last name on the cover? Why did you keep your ex-husband’s last name? Will you ever change your last name back?” The questions for Scheana read.
The TV star revealed that she constantly gets bombarded with these questions. However, she has a perfectly good reason:
“I have built a professional career as Scheana Shay.”
It’s not uncommon for celebrities to keep their exes’ last names. For example, there are Kris Jenner, Demi Moore, Faith Hill, Kimora Lee Simmons and Ivana Trump—women who have all kept their ex-husband’s last names.
Scheana continued, “Do I go back to Scheana Marie? I tried, it wasn’t really sticking … I don’t see changing my name professionally.”
While Scheana did build her brand around her name, it was also a matter of paperwork that would take forever to fix.
“It is a b**** of a process. And not just social security, passport, driver’s license. I mean my businesses, my retirement, my will, my trust, my houses, my everything is tied up in this name.”
Simply put, Scheana shared that “Scheana Shay just stuck” for her brand.
Scheana Admitted That Brock Isn’t Bothered That She Uses Her Ex-Husband’s Last Name
In her same podcast episode, Scheana told her listeners that her husband, Brock Davies, doesn’t see an issue with her choosing to keep her first husband’s last name. He knows that it’s all for business purposes as she does go by Scheana Davies in her personal life. “I am Scheana Davies. I’m Mrs. Davies. We are the Davies family.”
“It genuinely does not bother Brock that I use this name,” Scheana expressed. In fact, she even admitted that she met up with her ex, Mike, about her continuing to use his name.
“And also, I did recently have lunch with [Mike] and I asked him point blank. And it does not bother him either. So, if it doesn’t bother the ex-husband, it doesn’t bother the current husband. Again, I don’t know why it bothers all of you.”
VPR fans will recall that Scheana and Mike had many struggles while they were married, most notably, the latter’s substance abuse issues. In 2017, cameras captured when Scheana told Mike that she wanted a divorce after she believed that he was using pills again.
“Shay is denying being back on drugs and, although I feel like I’ll never know the truth, I know for sure that this is not the man I married,” Scheana said in a confessional.
The former couple wed in 2014, but separated less than three years later. However, they now seem to be on good terms following Scheana’s admission in her latest podcast episode.
Scheana Revealed That She “Covers It All” In Her New Memoir
In January, Scheana shared with her Instagram followers that she was releasing her first-ever memoir, My Good Side. Her post showed her book cover and that it would be released this summer. Her caption expressed what her fans can expect in the book, which will certainly include some of her most memorable days in Hollywood.
“Ahhhhhhh!!! I wrote a book! 📕 As you all know, one chapter of my life has come to an end, and I’m ready to turn the page and tell my own story. You’ve seen one side of me on reality TV, another side through filtered social media content, but MY GOOD SIDE isn’t a highlight reel. It digs deep into the core of who I am—the good, the bad, the messy, along with the missteps and lessons learned along the way.”
Fans are hoping that Scheana will go more in-depth about her previous relationships, including with actor Eddie Cibrian. The reality star was labeled his mistress after he cheated on his wife, former RHOBH’s Brandi Glanville, with her, and country artist LeAnn Rimes.
Scheana has also previously spilled that she hooked up with John Mayer, and had a sleepover at Ryan Phillipe’s house.
“If I included all of Hollywood in the book, it would be its own book,” Scheana told her podcast listeners. “I definitely took the biggest highlights from those chunks of people I’m sure you want to hear about. I definitely talk about.”
