In a sweet nod to a well-loved Christmas film, James Middleton has recreated an iconic scene to promote a charity close to his heart – Dogs Trust’s Christmas adoption appeal.

Princess Kate’s youngest sibling, James, has been a “longtime supporter and now proud ambassador” of the charity which is a rehoming and dog rescue charity in the UK.

The 37-year-old patron uploaded his Christmas warning to social media to share concerns about the hundreds of dogs that are gifted at Christmas only sadly to be abandoned in the New Year.

Depicting a scene from the film Love Actually, James puts a charitable twist on the famous romantic scene with supposed carol singers turning up at a front door – a moment initially acted between Keira Knightley and Andrew Lincoln.

In his video, titled “Love Unconditionally”, dog dad, James uses a series of cue cards to deliver a powerful message about dog abandonment.

Using his cue cards, James shares the message: “With any luck, by next year, there will be fewer dogs in shelters.”

The cards read: “But for now let me say, with hope and an agenda, because at Christmas you spread the word, dogs are for life – not just for Christmas.”

Pictures of dogs seeking homes are then revealed with a number of dogs available for adoption at Dogs Trust.

In a touching end to the video, James’s golden retriever Isla follows him as he walks outside onto the street, jumping up to give him a cute lick.

The message emphasises the long-term commitment required when bringing a dog into one’s life, reinforcing Dogs Trust’s mission to prevent post-holiday pet abandonment.

On their website, Dogs Trust states: “With more dogs being relinquished or even abandoned this time of year due to factors like the cost of living crisis or changes in a dogs behaviour over the festive season, our rehoming centres are becoming more vital.”

James’s caption alongside the video reads: “Dogs love us unconditionally and in turn, it’s our responsibility to love & care for them back. When that isn’t possible, it’s charities like Dogs Trust who step in, and right now they need our support more than ever.”

Fans have rushed to comment on the important message shared by Kate’s brother on Instagram. One wrote: “So beautifully shot and captured. These animals give us so much unconditional love with boundless joy and devotion.”

Another said: “Brilliant James, well done, and I wept.”

A third wrote: “Thank you for using your platform for a truly wonderful cause.”

One fan commented: “What a beautiful production James. Stunning message, thank you.”
