Princess Kate and Prince William have marked Valentine’s Day for the first time with a romantic image of the couple.

The loved-up picture is a still taken from the video they released in September to mark the end of Kate’s cancer treatment.

Dressed casually in the woods near their home in Norfolk, the princess smiles as her husband plants a kiss on her cheek. Their fingers are interlocked as they sit on a blanket in the beautiful woodland setting.

Kensington Palace shared the image on their social media platforms with no message except for a red love heart emoji.

It is the first time the couple have public marked Valentine’s Day, which is celebrated annually on February 14th. For many, it’s a day to show affection and love for someone special.

Kate, 43, and William, 42, met over two decades ago while they were studying at the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland.

Friends first, the couple were together for almost 10 years before William popped the question on October 20 2010 with the late Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire engagement ring.

The prince said in their engagement interview: “Obviously we both have a very fun time together, both have a very good sense of humour about things.”

Kate called him a “loving boyfriend” who was “very supportive of me through the good times and also through the bad times”.

They wed in a stunning fairytale ceremony in Westminster Abbey on April 29 2011, with the aisle of the Gothic church lined with trees.

The beautiful bride wore an intricate ivory gown with lace applique floral detail, while the groom was dressed in the red tunic of the Irish Guards.

William and Kate welcomed their first child George in 2013, followed by Charlotte in 2015 and Louis in 2018.

Last year marked a particularly tough time for the family, following Kate’s major abdominal surgery and subsequent cancer diagnosis.

In an interview during his four-day trip to Cape Town last November, William described the last 12 months as “brutal”.

“It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult,” he said.

A watershed moment came in September when Kensington Palace released the intimate video of the family, shot by filmmaker Will Warr.

The three-minute clip shows the couple with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, spending time together in Norfolk, with a message voiced by Kate.

She spoke of her relief at completing her course of chemotherapy but said this year has been “incredibly tough” and “that life as you know it can change in an instant”.

In January, the princess revealed she is in remission from cancer and has conducted six public engagements so far this year.

Her most recent visit came on Tuesday when she visited a women’s prison in Merseyside.

This week, the family of five are expected to head to their Norfolk retreat, Anmer Hall, to enjoy the February half-term together.
