Prince William’s wife Princess Kate was not in attendance as she prepares for a major event next month – leaving it to Queen Camilla to stun with her flawless fashion choice.

King Charles’s wife sported a blue velvet evening dress by Fiona Clare paired with an aquamarine and diamond tiara that belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The stunning tiara was accompanied by other priceless pieces, including an aquamarine and diamond necklace and earrings from her own collection. She also sported the monarch’s new ‘family order’, which a portrait of the sovereign normally given to female family members.

Leading the Royal Family at the event, which is widely considered one of the most glittery and important in the Royal Family calendar, was King Charles, who much like his elder son, proudly donned a white tie as well as his medals.

The King and Queen welcome more than 500 members of the ‘Diplomatic Corps’ in all their finery to the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace, along with their spouses.

Because extra guests are included, more than 1,500 guests are normally expected attend from around 130 different countries, making it the biggest reception held at the palace all year.

The event is normally held on the first Tuesday in December but has been brought forward as it would have clashed with a State Visit of the Amir of Qatar this year.

Tradition has the Royal Family greet their guests, a drinks reception follows and then a buffet with dinner and dancing in the Ballroom – however, members of the Firm usually leave before the dancing begins.
