George, Charlotte and Louis Baking Birthday Cake For Their Mum’s Intimate Celebration!

A birthday isn’t just a birthday without a cake. When it comes to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis’s birthdays, the Princess of Wales has a sweet tradition. And today is Catherine’s 43rd birthday. A source says Prince William and their children are pulling out all the stops to make it as special and family-oriented as possible—baking and decorating a birthday cake.

The royal mom of three doesn’t want anything extravagant. What makes her happy these days are the little things: quality time at home with William and the kids. That’s all she wants for her birthday this year. So, the prince is planning to cook her a nice roast dinner at home and have her parents and extended family join them. Their children are very excited about baking her a cake and have all sorts of decorations picked out. William has given them carte blanche when it comes to putting up silly decor for her, so there will be lots of balloons and that sort of thing.

Back in 2019, the royal mom of three revealed to Mary Berry that she bakes cakes for her children. “I love making the cake. It’s become a bit of a tradition, and I’ll stay up till midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing. I make far too much, but I love it.”

The dawn of 2025 was no doubt a welcome sight for William, who in November called 2024 “brutal.” “It’s been dreadful,” he said while in Cape Town, South Africa, for his fourth iteration of his Earthshot Prize Awards. “It’s probably been the hardest year of my life.”

2024 saw both his wife and father diagnosed with cancer. His Aunt Sarah Ferguson also announced a second cancer diagnosis, and Thomas Kingston, the husband of Lady Gabriella, died suddenly as a result of a traumatic head wound at age 45 on February 25th. Additionally, his uncle Prince Andrew’s association with the alleged Chinese spy brought further embarrassment to the monarchy, five years after the Duke of York’s disastrous BBC Newsnight interview did the same.

But not all was lost for the royal family last year. Without a doubt, there was a rebirth of the Welles as their country’s number one couple, moving the monarchy into a new space. These days, they appear to be a double act—even when apart.

Things quieted down after the Princess of Wales’s heartbreaking diagnosis in March, but some are now claiming that William is running back to Rose, even after his wife fights for his life. Kensington Palace has already dismissed the persisting gossip as totally wrong and false, with an insider adding, “It’s horrendous for Catherine that these rumors don’t go away, especially now that she’s sick.”

As the future Queen eases her way back into normal life, it’s believed that her royal engagements may look a little different from how they were before. The princess may follow in the footsteps of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by opting for solo appearances without the Prince of Wales. According to royal author and expert Robert Jobson, Catherine is planning an overseas tour with Prince William after resuming royal duties post-cancer treatment. However, the expert claims that the mother of three may also opt for solo appearances and projects, much like the Sussexes.

But the expert concluded that her family will remain her top priority: “Catherine may well do a couple of solo things so that William can stay at home with the kids. The king is bound to have had a conversation with his daughter about how bruised he felt with his overseas tour, but she will do things her own way. Her illness has been a life-changing experience. She’s changed the way she lives her life, and I think she’ll be making her own choices. Her priority is still her family.”

Meanwhile, William insists he wants to provide compassionate leadership amid a dangerous new dawn of showy nationalism. To help him perform that onerous task, it is vital that the king leans in.
