Father’s Boundless Love! TOUCHING MOMENT Prince William Takes The Stage To Honour King Charles

While the royal family is known for their majestic titles and grand palaces, when it comes to nicknames, they’re surprisingly relatable. During the coronation concert, a heartwarming moment revealed the affectionate, sometimes old-fashioned terms of endearment used by the Prince of Wales and his father, King Charles, as expressions of love from their children.

As legendary singer Lionel Richie finished his performance, Prince William took the stage to honor his father. That’s when a sweet moment unfolded—Princess Charlotte, with her keen eyes, spotted her father and couldn’t contain her excitement. A skilled lip reader reported that the 8-year-old joyfully exclaimed, “Look, there’s Papa!” This moment, full of warmth and innocence, is sure to melt hearts.

But the surprises didn’t stop there. In his heartfelt tribute, Prince William used a rather unexpected nickname for his father, referring to him as “Par” with warmth and familiarity. He said, “We are all so proud of you, Par.” This term of endearment, it turns out, has been used by both William and Harry since their childhood. The royal family is known for their penchant for charming and traditional nicknames. While most people might call their parents “Mom” and “Dad,” the royals prefer more refined terms like “Mummy”, “Daddy”, “Papa”, “Par”, and “Mama.”

The late Queen Elizabeth II was lovingly called “Mummy” or “Mama” by King Charles, even during moments of profound grief. After the passing of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, in 2021, King Charles paid tribute to him by calling him “Papa.” Similarly, upon Queen Elizabeth’s passing, Charles referred to her as “My darling Mama,” expressing his hope that she would reunite with Prince Philip.

These affectionate words reflect the deep emotional bonds within the royal family. But beyond these tender moments, the royals also have a playful side when it comes to nicknames. In a 2007 interview, Prince William recalled a fun moniker from his childhood during a family trip to Australia. The locals affectionately nicknamed him “Wombat,” inspired by the country’s beloved marsupial. William laughed at the story, admitting he wasn’t sure why he was given the name—perhaps because of his charm or mischievous grin.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have been together for nearly half of their lives—around 22 years—and they’re both only 43. One secret to their success as a couple might be their ability to laugh at each other, and their nicknames for one another make that clear. William calls Catherine “darling,” while she refers to him as “babe.” But then there are the funnier, more playful nicknames: Catherine calls William “Big Willie” (no need to assume why), and William affectionately refers to his wife as “Baby Kins.”

Yet the best nicknames are those that lovingly poke fun at each other. William has playfully called Catherine “Duchess of Dittle,” a nickname that royal author Tom Quinn describes as a gentle dig. This playful name refers to a critique made by Queen Elizabeth, as Catherine did not have a full-time career before marrying William in 2011. In response, the Duchess pokes fun at William by calling him “Baldy” (for obvious reasons).

Sometimes, though, William switches to a sweeter nickname, calling her “darling” with a tone that suggests mild annoyance when he’s cross with her. Tom Quinn revealed that despite their loving relationship, the Wales couple has “terrible rows” where they reportedly throw things at each other—certainly an unexpected twist!

In addition to their playful nicknames, Catherine and King Charles have their own adorable exchanges. Catherine privately calls him “Grandpa,” while Charles lovingly refers to her as his “beloved daughter-in-law” or “darling daughter-in-law.”

From the affectionate “Papa” and “Par” to the fun-loving “Wombat,” these nicknames remind us that beneath their grandeur and responsibilities, the royals cherish their family bonds and enjoy life’s simple joys—just like the rest of us.
