Fans Awe! Catherine Baking Cakes For George, Charlotte And Louis With Emotional Birthday Tradition

Beyond her royal duties and public engagements, Katherine, the Princess of Wales, embraces the joys of motherhood with dedication, particularly through a cherished family tradition: baking birthday cakes for her children. This sweet ritual, grounded in love and care, has become a defining feature of her parenting journey.

Every birthday in the Wales household begins with a handmade cake crafted by none other than Catherine herself. Speaking about this tradition on A Berry Royal Christmas in 2019, she said:
“It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up till midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing. I make far too much, but I love it.”

Despite her busy schedule, Katherine ensures that each cake is perfect, staying up late into the night to bake and decorate. Whether it’s a classic Victoria sponge or a more elaborate creation, the Princess pours her heart into every detail, creating lasting memories for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

In June 2022, Katherine wore a pink gingham blouse by Brora in a video released by the Palace. The 8-second clip is a montage of photos showing the Princess baking cakes with her three children—George, Charlotte, and Louis—over the years.

The Princess of Wales has often been associated with special cakes. From the grandeur of her eight-tiered wedding cake designed by Fiona Cairns to the sentimental tradition of serving the top tier at Prince George’s christening, cakes have often marked significant milestones in her life.

Even during public engagements, cakes play a symbolic role. In 2017, Katherine cut a cake to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Royal Horticultural Society’s School Gardening Campaign. On another occasion, she admired a cycling-themed cake during a visit to Luxembourg.

Birthdays in the Wales family are a blend of tradition, joy, and love. Alongside homemade cakes, they include intimate celebrations, heartfelt gestures, and the release of new portraits. Katherine, an avid photographer, often captures these moments herself, showcasing her children’s personalities and milestones.

For instance, Prince Louis’s 6th birthday portrait, taken by Catherine in Windsor, featured him beaming with joy while lying on a blanket. Similarly, Katherine’s photographs of Princess Charlotte and Prince George have been praised for their natural warmth and authenticity.

While Katherine’s passion for baking is evident, she remains humble about her skills. During the 75th birthday celebrations of the National Health Service in 2023, she sought advice from The Great British Baking Show finalist Alice Fevronia. In a playful comparison, Fevronia noted that Prince William’s cake-decorating skills lagged behind Katherine’s:
“Let’s just say the Princess has a much steadier hand when it comes to piping,” she joked.

Baking in the Wales household isn’t limited to Catherine—it’s a family affair. Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have been seen enthusiastically assisting their mom during various occasions, including the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

In a video released by the royal couple, the children helped bake vanilla cupcakes adorned with colorful decorations for a street party in Cardiff. Katherine has often shared how much her children enjoy cooking and baking. During a visit to the Ivy Learning Trust, she revealed:
“They love making cheesy pasta and salads. Each of them takes a role—one stirs the flour, another adds the milk and butter. It’s chaotic, but so much fun.”

Katherine’s hands-on approach extends beyond birthdays and special occasions. For Mother’s Day, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis once baked a cake for her—a gesture that underscores the loving bond she shares with her children. Decorated with icing, sprinkles, and heartfelt touches, the cake was a testament to the lessons Katherine has instilled in them about love, effort, and togetherness.

While the Princess of Wales takes her role as a future Queen seriously, her top priority has always been her children. Katherine strives to give George, Charlotte, and Louis a sense of normalcy despite the public scrutiny that comes with their royal status.

A close friend of the family shared:
“Katherine and William want their children to experience a regular childhood while also preparing them for their future roles. It’s a delicate balance, but they’re doing it beautifully.”

For Catherine, traditions like baking birthday cakes are more than just fun activities—they are a way to connect with her children and create a sense of stability amid the responsibilities of royal life.

As Katherine continues to navigate her roles as a mother, wife, and future Queen, her baking tradition remains a symbol of her love and devotion.
