Anyone who’s watched Vanderpump Rules will know that SUR restaurant owner Lisa Vanderpump did not have a very warmhearted relationship with her former employee and co-star Kristen Doute. Unlike most of her co-stars, Kristen wasn’t afraid to confront her boss, but her unapologetic attitude in the workplace is what ultimately got her fired from SUR, although she was still a main cast member before the start of Season 9.
Although Kristen now stars in the VPR spin-off The Valley, which is also produced by Lisa, the latter still doesn’t have any sort of relationship with Kristen. In fact, her distasteful comments about Kristen’s pregnancy are being called out by other former VPR stars.
Lisa Vanderpump Made Off-Putting Remarks About Kristen Doute’s Pregnancy
When Kristen Doute announced her pregnancy on Instagram, her comment section was filled with congratulatory remarks from her followers and even her former Vanderpump Rules co-stars. However, one person who did not congratulate Kristen on her pregnancy news was Lisa Vanderpump. Although the two women worked together on the show, they had a very tumultuous relationship.
When Lisa appeared in an episode of Access Hollywood’s Housewives Nightcap, she was told about her ex-employee’s pregnancy. Instead of being happy for Kristen despite their non-existent relationship, Lisa said some very distasteful things that had angered fans.
“I hadn’t heard that. How on Earth did that happen? Who’s the father? Do we know?”
When Lisa was then told that Kristen was engaged to Luke (the two appear in The Valley), the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star expressed that she had no clue Kristen was set to walk down the aisle. Luke had proposed to Kristen in September when the two vacationed in Hawaii.
“Oh, she’s getting married? I’m really not very involved in The Valley even though I’m a producer,” Lisa said.
When Page Six posted an article about Lisa’s shady comments, Kristen reshared the story to her Instagram Story and included a clown emoji.
Kristen starred in the very first season of The Valley, a spin-off of Vanderpump Rules, which sees a few former cast members, including Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor, living a more “adult” life in the San Fernando Valley. Season 1 first aired in March. Season 2 does not have a release date as of this writing, but more VPR cast members will appear, including Lala Kent, Scheana Shay, and Tom Schwartz.
Scheana Shay Slammed Lisa For Her “Super Shady” Comments
Lisa’s comments made their rounds on the Internet, and former VPR star Scheana, immediately came to Kristen’s defense. In an episode on her Scheananigans podcast, the reality TV star called Lisa’s comments, “shady.” She even dubbed Lisa the “Jax-Hole of the Week.”
“With all due respect, it was kind of shady … Super shady. That’s also unprofessional especially because Lisa is a producer of The Valley. ”
Scheana added that Lisa should have known about Kristen’s engagement as it’s going to be featured in the upcoming season of The Valley. It was just another dig by Lisa, who never really seemed to care for Kristen after the former fired her from SUR in Season 3 of VPR.
“You know who Luke is. He is a cast member of this show. This season, they get engaged,” Scheana said. “Knowing the struggles that Kristen has shared about her path to becoming a mother, even if you don’t like someone, it is distasteful. How hard is it to … wish her the best?”
Lisa And Kristen Don’t Have The Best History
Lisa had always been heavily critical of Kristen when she was an employee at SUR restaurant. In Season 3, Lisa fired Kristen for good when she was disrespectful to the restaurant’s managers. When meeting with Lisa and SUR’s other owner, Nathalie Zapata, instead of apologizing for her actions, Kristen lashed out and challenged her bosses. Kristen worked at SUR for 7 years at that point, and didn’t even try to attempt to ask for forgiveness to save her job. Lisa had had enough of Kristen’s attitude in the workplace.
Lisa even tweeted about Kristen’s firing in 2015:
Fans on Reddit believed that Lisa never truly liked Kristen because she would never “kiss [Lisa’s] a**.”
“She didn’t give a f*** and Lisa couldn’t stand that. Every other person on the show has some way or some how let Lisa know she’s better than they are. Kristen never thought that or said it lol.”
“I feel like they were both bad towards each other. It seems like Kristen already doesn’t respect authority (like someone else said) but Lisa also seems to be extra rude to her, and so I can see how the tension escalated on both sides,” another user wrote.
In 2020, while speaking to People’s Reality Check, Kristen revealed that her relationship was better than ever with Lisa.
“This is the closest we’ve been [and] the kindest she’s ever been to me. I feel like she went through a lot last year and I think that softened her up a lot and I think she saw me going through a lot this summer and so, she decided to lay off,” Kristen said.
However, their relationship is clearly rocky now.
Kristen Is Welcoming Her “Miracle” Rainbow Baby In June 2025
In late November, former Vanderpump Rules star Kristen Doute announced that she was expecting her first child with her fiancé Luke Broderick. Having her pregnancy photos announced with the help of People Magazine, the reality TV star shared they were expecting their “miracle” baby after she had suffered a miscarriage last year.
“After our pregnancy loss last year, we decided to start trying in early 2024. I knew my age could be a factor in conceiving, so Luke and I discussed going for an extra push, a little help,” she told the magazine. Kristen shared that she and Luke decided to go to the IUI route (intrauterine insemination) to help conceive their first baby.
“The two weeks following the IUI procedure felt like years. To get a correct outcome on a pregnancy test, two weeks time had to pass and I had to wait it out but in my heart I knew it had worked. I tested one day early and got the big PREGNANT result staring back at me,” Kristen said.
Kristen received a ton of love on her Instagram post revealing her pregnancy. All of her former VPR castmates including Scheana, Brittany, Katie Maloney, and even Stassi Schroeder, congratulated her on her pregnancy.
Speaking on her Balancing Act podcast, Kristen revealed that she and Stassi are no longer close friends. The reality star admitted that the last time she had spoken to her was when she sent her a happy wedding anniversary text in May. Stassi had also never met Kristen’s fiance, Luke.
In December, Kristen threw a gender-reveal party and learned that she and Luke were going to be parents to a girl. Her expected due date is June 2025.
