Katie Maloney On Where She Stands With Her Former VPR Co-Stars and the Reboot
Katie Maloney is speaking out about all things “Vanderpump Rules.” As the new cast begins filming season 12, the VPR alum isn’t holding back her feelings about the reboot, her former co-stars, and her ex-husband Tom Schwartz.
Katie Maloney on Why ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Season 11 Was Difficult
VPR fans witnessed Maloney and Schwartz run a full relationship gamut over the past 12 years. When the show premiered in 2013, they were already dating. By season 4 they were engaged, and their wedding was part of season 5. But by season 11, Maloney and Schwartz were divorced and dealing with shared custody of their pets.
Maloney’s final season on the Bravo series wasn’t an easy one, as it was filmed in the aftermath of Scandoval. She feuded with all of her co-stars, with the exception of Ariana Madix.
During a recent appearance on the “Humble Brag” podcast, Maloney gave an update on where she stands with her ex.
“We’re cool, but we don’t go get lunch. We still have dogs, and they primarily live with him,” Maloney said.
She also admitted that filming the show post-divorce in season 11 was “really intense” and a “strange place to be.”
Another factor that made her final season a difficult one was because she was no longer really friends with a lot of the cast.
“I just was like, I’m friends with one person. I really can’t stand the rest of them,” she shared.
Maloney and Schwartz Got Along Before Filming Their Final Season
Maloney explained that she and Schwartz had to live together for five months after their split because their house was getting repaired and prepped to sell. She said it was an “interesting” experience living with her ex, but they got along the whole time.
“It was very amicable, very peaceful. But then, of course, when we started filming, everything went crazy,” Maloney confessed. “It became hard to even do that. That’s … why this past year, after our last season, I was like, I’m not coming back to the show. And now they’ve recast the whole thing.”
Maloney also revealed that she was only friends with “one person” in the cast, and she “really can’t stand the rest of them.”
“Even though Tom and I are cool, I don’t want to keep up with my ex-husband, go on vacation,” Maloney said.
Katie Maloney Shares Her Thoughts on the ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Reboot
After Maloney and her co-stars were informed that they would not return for season 12 of “Vanderpump Rules,” she says she was shocked they would reboot the show with a new cast. Especially since they could “barely bring new people” onto the show during their seasons.
“Rebooting it with an entire new cast — it was a little shocking because like they could barely bring new people into our seasons in the past year,” she said. “Now you’re just going to scrap everybody.”
“The reboots feels a little strange,” she said. “Because I’m like, why don’t you just call it something else? Just do a new show. Why are you doing a season 12 of a show that’s not a season 12?”
“Vanderpump Rules” is available to stream on Peacock.
