Lisa Vanderpump Reflects on Loss of Brother & Shares How it Influenced RHOBH Departure

Lisa Vanderpump is sharing new insight into her decision to exit The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills following Season 9.

In an April 2025 cover story for Us Weekly, the restaurateur said that she found it difficult to continue filming after her brother, Mark Vanderpump, passed away in 2018.

“Grief can be hard because you don’t want to make a depressing show,” Lisa said. “So that’s why I said to [Andy Cohen], ‘I shouldn’t do [RHOBH]. I would cry if I opened the fridge…'”

She said, “I made the decision then and there [after her disagreement with Kyle Richards]. I don’t have it in me to be combative. I’m done.”

After Lisa’s friendship with Kyle came to an end with Ken Todd saying, “Goodbye, Kyle” at Villa Rose, the mom of two skipped the cast trip to France. She also did not attend the reunion, which marked the end of her long run on the series. Nowadays, Lisa is at the helm of Vanderpump Rules, which has been rebooted for its upcoming 12th season.

What happened to Lisa Vanderpump’s brother, Mark Vanderpump?

Lisa’s older brother passed away at his home in Gloucestershire, England in April 2018. He was 59 at the time of his death, and he left behind two sons.

“This has come as a shock to us all. My brother and I had connected the day before this tragedy and I was completely unprepared for this. He was my only sibling and I am shocked and saddened by his passing,” Lisa said in a statement at the time. “I am trying to be supportive to his two young sons that he has left behind, and help them get through this tragedy.”

Does Lisa Vanderpump regret skipping the RHOBH Season 9 reunion?

Nearly six years after leaving RHOBH, Lisa does not have any regrets about missing the Season 9 reunion. She explained why to Us Weekly. “No, because I’d sat at reunions before where they’d all been against me,” she said. “There’s cackling and noise, and it doesn’t matter what you say — it’s a story that these women want to tell.”

As for whether she would be interested in returning to the show herself, Lisa told TMZ “that’s a hard no” in April 2025.
