Kensington Palace releases new video of Princess Kate as she makes important statement

The short film featuring the Princess of Wales was shot in the Lake District last month.

Princess Kate says nature helps her find a “sense of peace and reconnection” as she appears in a short film showcasing the important role the outside world has on our health and well-being. Filmed in the Lake District last month, Kate, 43, if filmed chatting to new Chief Scout Dwayne Fields as they walk near the shores of Lake Windermere before spending time with a group of Scouts.

The pair discuss how spending time in the nature world can help us to deepen connections with ourselves and each other while building our skills of empathy, resilience and our sense of belonging. Dressed casually in combat trousers, a knitted roll-neck jumper, bomber jacket and a baker boy cap, Kate says: “I find it a very spiritual and very intense emotional reconnection I suppose, these environments.

“Not everyone has that same relationship perhaps with nature, but it is so therefore meaningful for me as a place to balance and find a sort of sense of peace and reconnection in what is otherwise a very busy world.”

The 2.5-minute film shows the princess interacting with a group of Scouts aged between 10-15 from groups in Cumbria and Greater Manchester as they undertake a challenge to earn their Naturalist Badge.

It marks the first time Kate, who is joint president of the Scouts, met Dwayne since he took on the role as Chief Scout in September 2024.

Scouts regularly enable 450,000 young people to engage with and experience wellbeing in nature, a cause which is very close to The Princess’ heart.

Her recent Mother’s Day message celebrated Mother Nature and the importance of “our bond with the natural world”.

She wrote: “Over the past year, nature has been our sanctuary. This Mother’s Day, let us celebrate Mother Nature and recognise how our bond with the natural world can help not only nurture our inner selves, but remind us too of the role we play within the rich tapestry of life.”

In the film, released by Kensington Palace last night, Dwayne highlights how important it is to have Kate involved. He says: “Having someone of her profile being our president is great for the Scout movement.”

The Chief Scout adds: “I think it’s really important for young people to have access to nature because it’s a space where they can push themselves, they can challenge themselves, they learn leadership skills, spend time making friends and those life-long really great memories that we all hold onto.

“And I think if we can do that, we’ll build up a generation who is passionate about our natural spaces and passionate about protecting them as well.”

Scouts were founded in 1907 and instil vital skills in young people as they learn to camp, hike, canoe and climb in a fun and safe environment.

Kate is currently enjoying the half-term break with her husband and their three children but the family are expected to attend the Easter Sunday church service at Windsor this weekend.
