Scheana Shay Breaks Silence After ‘Masked Singer’ Reveal

Scheana Shay was recently unmasked as Bat on The Masked Singer. Since this, Shay has opened up about her time on the show. She also touched on the surprising reason why she agreed to appear.

The Panelists Guessed Bat Could Be A Reality Show Alum

Shay, also known as Scheana Marie Davies, is arguably best known to audiences through the Bravo reality show, Vanderpump Rules. One of the original cast members, she appeared as a cast member for the first eleven seasons.

Recently, however, Shay has been spending time as part of another reality show. That said, many fans are only just now realizing it.

As noted by People, Shay recently took part in The Masked Singer‘s thirteenth season as one of its costumed characters. Shay was the voice behind the character, Bat.

Shay made her debut on the “Voices of Olympus” night, which boasted a Greek myth theme. With Group B making its debut, Bat competed with the likes of Boogie Woogie, Griffin, Space Ranger, and Pearl.

For her performance, Shay sang the Sabrina Carpenter number, “Espresso.” At the time, panelists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Rita Ora and Robin Thicke tried to figure out who she was. Their guesses included Bethenny Frankel, Larsa Pippen, or Lisa Rinna.

Speaking with the publication, Shay noted she found this flattering. She shared, “Everyone they guessed me as was a compliment, and [they’re] all people I’m either fans or friends of, so I loved the guesses.”

While Shay found herself unmasked, she shared she was worried her identity would soon become obvious. She revealed, “If I would’ve made it onto the second episode, I feel like they might’ve guessed me because there were more clues in that package that I felt like were so obvious.”

Outside of her television appearances, Shay is also a noted singer. One of her most notable songs is “Good as Gold,” which came out in 2013.

Shay Shared The Real Reason She Joined The Masked Singer

Shay has history with both reality television and music. However, she admitted that a competition series was a new experience for her. She shared, “I’m like, ‘Wait, how many viewers do we have?’ It’s a lot. It’s more than VPR.

“So that was a little intimidating. But also, I’m in a mask, and if people want to say whatever they do, I’m used to that. I had fun.”

Shay also assured she wasn’t too disappointed over leaving the show. She admitted, I didn’t want to come on at all, if I’m being honest. When I got the call, I was like, ‘Nope, nope, absolutely not. I am not doing that.’”

“After being on Vanderpump Rules and people making fun of me for doing music when I’m like, I’ve never wanted to be a pop star. It was just always something as a fun side hobby.”

Shay also acknowledged her daughter as her inspiration for joining the series. She noted she wanted to set an example: “That is something that I want my daughter [Summer Moon] to grow up and do, to not be afraid of the unknown and to take chances.”

When asked if she had guesses about the other masked characters, Shay noted, “No, I am terrible at this. Every episode I’ve watched, I’m like, ‘No clue.’”

“So I’m just as excited as everyone else for all of them to get unmasked, because I have no clue. I would be a terrible judge on that show. I could never be hired.”
